Aquaculture in your region
Otago Regional Council
Background
In Otago there has been little demand for marine farming.
Current status
Early in 2005, the Otago Regional Council decided to take the Invited Private Plan Change approach to development of aquaculture management areas. To date, industry has shown little interest in setting up marine farms in Otago so planning for aquaculture management areas has been placed on hold and will be included in the review of the Regional Plan: Coast.
