Short Term Aquaculture Research
Stocktake of Regional Coastal Plan Provisions

Opus International Consultants Ltd 2007

This report assesses the provisions of regional coastal plans in terms of how they allow for experimentation, research and innovation in aquaculture within their regions.   It provide a stocktake of the current provisions and assesses what flexibility they have to allow for experimentation, research and innovation in aquaculture.  It also highlights examples of good practice and any notes of caution (i.e. provisions that might create barriers to research and innovation).

It is anticipated that the report may be of use to regional and unitary councils looking to make any changes to aquaculture provisions in their regional coastal plans, or to anyone wanting to undertake short term experimentation or research.  The project assessed the objectives, policies, rules or other methods that may be relevant to experimentation, research and innovation in aquaculture.  The report is structured in a way that allows you to read the summary of key findings in section 2, summaries of the individual plans in section 3, or the actual plan provisions of relevance in volume 2.
